Fix your sick or broken ipod
Some ipod repairs are easy (especially if it is a software problem) and some are nearly impossible (most Nano repairs fall into the impossible category). We hope to provide you enough information that you can fix many of the problems that plague ipods.
The most common problems are software problems, dead or dying batteries, broken hard drives, broken main boards and broken clickwheels. Hard drive problems are common, but are virtually unfixable unless you get a new hard drive, which is generally quite expensive, unless you can find a broken ipod on Ebay, which is cheap and still has a good drive. Finding those bargains is not easy.
To fix hardware problems, there are a few tools you are likely to need:
A plastic-y opening tool to open your ipod without scratching. We found a plastic pan scraper at a hardware store (for .99) that works very well for opening ipods. Many of the batteries you can find come in kits that include a plastic opening tool along with instructions for using.
A set of very small screwdrivers, Phillips head and straight blade.
A magnifying glass will come in handy.
A very small pair of tweezers.
Kapton tape (very thin orange tape for covering electrical connections).
Very small fingers. Ha. There are no fingers small enough to make these repairs trivially easy, but unless you have hambones for hands, you can probably do this.
